Time
About 1 hour
Kid job
Kids can dump the peaches, sprinkle the cake mix, and place the butter pats. A grown-up handles the hot oven.
What you need
- 1 can (29 oz) peach slices in juice
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 box (18.25 oz) yellow cake mix
- 1/3 cup light brown sugar
- 12 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into thin pats
How to make it
- 1Ask a grown-up to heat the oven to 350°F. Then spray a 9 x 13 casserole dish with nonstick spray.
- 2Dump the peaches and all their juice into the dish. Add the vanilla and cinnamon, then give it a gentle stir with a spoon.
- 3Sprinkle the yellow cake mix evenly over the peaches. Gently stir just the juicy parts into the mix so some dry cake mix stays on top — that makes the crispy spots!
- 4Sprinkle brown sugar all over the top like a little dusting of sweetness.
- 5Place butter pats across the whole pan so the cake gets golden and crispy on top.
- 6Ask a grown-up to put the pan in the oven (uncovered!) for 45–55 minutes, until the top is deep golden brown and crispy outside, fluffy inside.
- 7Let it cool for 15 minutes, then scoop it warm into bowls. It is extra yummy with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
Grown-ups: please help with the oven, the stove, and anything sharp.
