Kid job

Kids can wash the fruit, slide pieces onto the skewers, and arrange them in a rainbow pattern.

What you need

  • 12 wooden skewers (blunt ends are best for little hands)
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
  • 2 cups fresh pineapple chunks
  • 2 cups green grapes
  • 2 cups blueberries
  • 2 cups red grapes or raspberries
  • Optional: vanilla Greek yogurt for dipping

How to make it

  1. 1Wash all the fruit and pat it dry with a paper towel.
  2. 2Set out the fruit in bowls so kids can see all the rainbow colors.
  3. 3Hold a skewer and slide on one piece of fruit at a time.
  4. 4Try building a pattern: red strawberry, yellow pineapple, green grape, blue blueberry, purple grape.
  5. 5Keep stacking until the skewer is almost full, leaving a little handle at the bottom.
  6. 6Lay the finished skewers on a platter in a fan shape so they look like a tree full of fruit.
  7. 7Serve plain or with a small bowl of vanilla yogurt for dipping.

Grown-ups: please help with the oven, the stove, and anything sharp.
